Do you find there are times when your night’s sleep gets disrupted?

Maybe due to noise around your bedroom, a hot flush, the need to wake up to go to the toilet, waking up with certain thoughts on your mind, waking up to attend to a child or relative who’s unwell or needs support etc.

Then in the morning when it’s time to wake up from your sleep, you feel groggy, unrefreshed and you go through the day feeling tired, irritable and not performing at your best.

Here are three of six ways you can stay alert and energised throughout your day:

  1. From the moment you wake up until the early evening, ensure you stay hydrated. This will support your circulation and brain function when you’ve not had enough sleep.
Though it might be tempting to grab a cup of coffee to help you stay alert and awake, it’s a false stimulator. You’ll get an energy high, (which is due to the caffeine stimulating the adrenal glands to produce adrenalin and cortisol, which in turn raises insulin levels), then an energy low. So instead hydrate with water and herbal teas.
  2. Eat Nourishing Foods. Because you feel tired and sleepy you may be tempted to just eat anything to give you the energy boost you need. Stay focused on nourishing your brain and body with healthy foods that will provide a constant release of energy, such as nuts, fruits, vegetables and wholegrains.
  3. Consciously breathing and taking full breaths helps to gently refresh your brain and body at a cellular level. Practice breathing fully outdoors in a nature setting and you’ll find you’ll experience a natural high of calm energy.

Which of these three will you practice?
